The "artistic" concept of his dio has always appealed to me, even if Revell didn't quite get it right. I like the effort gone into creating an environment with stark light and shadow contrasts (just as it would be on the moon). The instructions and painting guide are very concise and include a template of shapes to cut the gold foil to.
Although not clearly seen in these photos I painted the entire base Flat Black, masked out the indented cast shadows, then, holding the spray can at a really low angle, blew a coat of Camouflage Grey across it, in the same direction as the "preset" shadows. This was how I created more shadows behind the rocks and crater rim.
With more time and better lighting and photographic equipment it would be possible to get some really spot-on shots, incorporating all the elements...
